Update Map
Checking in from Czech Republic
Finally found decent internet connection! Since our last update we've driven through Germany and are now in East Czech Republic. In Germany we visited the Eder Dam of Dam Busters fame and found that a Harley Bike rally was taking place there, which was cool. We had a huge thunderstorm that night which was ok as it stopped the bikes driving around needlessly. We then carried on through Southern Germany, wild camping in the forests. The villages were very small and traditional, not much English was spoken and we appeared to be the only foreign visitors. We managed to set off a speed camera and also got pulled over by the police, so we think we made an impression!
We then continued to Prague where we spent 2 wonderful days roaming around the beautiful city doing the 'touristy' thing. We gave Mario a rest at a campsite for 2 days while we used the local bus and Metro service to get about. Enjoyed Czech beers and meals out and generally absorbing the atmosphere in the many beautiful squares.
We then headed to Brno on the D1, Czech's major motorway which was absolutely dreadful! It was made from those old concrete slabs but they had all become misaligned and cracked. It was like driving along a washboard for hours! We've been on little single track roads here that were in better condition, perhaps it's just their way of keeping the speed down.
After camping last night in Sloup, a little village with a big Church and even bigger cave, we are now in Olomouc, 'the most amazing town you've never heard of' according to our Lonely Planet. We are just off to explore for ourselves.
From here we will head to Krakov, Poland where we will probably spend a couple of days.
Note to parents - we are eating well, staying safe, keeping clean and haven't yet run out of money.
Happy Birthday to the lovely Clare Brown for the 1st July and Happy Birthday to our fab nephew Thomas, for today!!
Internet allowing, we'll be in touch soon.
